People with abnormal gut flora almost without exception have low stomach acid production produced by overgrowth of Candida species, Clostridia and other pathogens. The GAPS criteria for supplementing Stomach Acid is 200mg of Betaine HCl and 100mg of Pepsin. Sauerkraut is a better option to stimulate stomach acid for children.
Dr Natasha Campbell McBride believes in putting most of the effort into the diet, however she does acknowledge that some conditions require targeted supplementation by a qualified practitioner. Higher Nature Betaine HCl 90 capsules
Hydrochloric acid supplement (for low stomach acid). Betaine hydrochloride is the acidic form of Tri-Methyl Glycine (TMG). Too little stomach acid can cause discomfort and poor digestion. Hydrochloric acid is also important for Vitamin B12 absorption. For people who can not swallow capsules, Betaine HCl can be opened and sprinkled on food without burning like HCl with added Pepsin will do.
